30 years ago, the civil war ended when the Salvadoran Government and the guerrilla signed the Peace Accords in Chapultepec, Mexico. It was a big deal, since those accords allowed the country to become a real democracy, without fear of persecution. Unfortunately, since 2019 the Bukele Administration has been trying to diminish the importance of such accords. Without them, he wouldn't be the President of El Salvador. But why is President Nayib Bukele not celebrating the Peace Accords and also not letting people celebrate them peacefully?
That is a great question, and we can only speculate. The Bitcoin Law was widely unpopular, and it was the thing that made Salvadorans take the streets against the central government for the first time in two years. Since then, the Bukele Administration has been fighting against the protest, with sarcastic tweets, but lately by deploying troops around San Salvador just like in the 80's:
Police checkpoints
Bukele and his allies were tweeting that the checkpoints are for protecting civilians against the gangs and thieves, however the deployment of police and the military all across the AMSS (Area Metropolitana de San Salvador) is not common except only when there is an scheduled pacific protest.
Police checkpoint on Troncal del Norte, at the outskirts of Delgado City. Radio listeners are reporting that the police force is blocking citizens from attending the peaceful protest. "Car plates are being confiscated"

Search and Frisk
Regular citizens were subject to search and frisk, just because they were joining the peaceful protest and celebration of the Peace Accords. It is clear that President Nayib Bukele ordered these unlawful and unreasonable search and frisks. We can confirm that because the police force and the military blindly obey Bukele's orders, even when he does it from his Twitter account:
The checkpoints, tweets, and misleading propaganda have one goal: Keep Nayib Bukele's image as a great leader intact. But at what cost? Members of the New Ideas party never address the corruption cases that are adding up as we speak. Bukele's cabinet remains silent when ask about the never ending problems with the Chivo Wallet or why the President is day trading with public funds. Bukele's efforts to sabotage or diminish any protest have one goal in common:
Keep his approval ratings up by any means necessary, until the next Presidential Election.
Why?
Rumor has it that he plans to run for re-election, even thought it is forbidden by the constitution of El Salvador.
